Sheila Tumwine : Founding Partner
Ms. Sheila Tumwine completed her Bachelor of Laws Degree from Makerere University in 2002. She graduated in the top 10 percentile of her class. She went on to obtain her Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre which she completed in 2003. She holds an MBA (HR) from Makerere University Business School.
Sheila has attended several workshops and trainings such as the Women in Leadership and Development Program, Corporate Governance for Profitability, Competitiveness and Sustainability, Corporate Finance and Documentation Course, among others.
She has a good grasp of the law with vast legal experience spanning 20 years both in and out of the court room.
She enjoys a good challenge and loves to participate in complex legal cases. She has successfully litigated several high profile cases in the High Court, Anti- Corruption Division, Civil Division, Jinja High Court and the Commercial Division.
In 2018, Sheila was one of the 4 private defense lawyers invited by the Head of the Division where she participated in the drafting of the High Court Anti- Corruption Division Case Management Rules.
She is the former Board Chair (Uganda) of Child’s i Foundation where she volunteered her services since inception in 2009.
She also serves as Company Secretary in various organizations which include, but are not limited to Microfinance Institutions, Construction, Technology and General Trading companies.
She has worked with Dfcu Bank Limited, International Law Institute and Uganda Telecom Limited. She has lectured law and other subjects in Kampala International University and Cavendish University. She continues to offer practical legal guidance and training to Law Development Centre Post- Graduate students during their clerkship.
Sheila is admitted to practice law as an advocate, Commissioner for Oaths and Notary Public in the Republic of Uganda.

Mr. Muzafaru is an advocate of the High Court of Uganda whose interests and specialty is in Commercial law transactions, Civil and Commercial litigation; in particular, he prosecutes and defends client’s interests in courts and tribunals.
He handles matters of Immigration Law, Property Law, Bankruptcy Law, Labor and Employment Law issues, Landlord/ Tenancy Law as well as general Commercial matters.
Expertise: Mr. Muzafaru is reputed for his specialty in Company law transactions, Commercial law transactions, Public Interest Law as well as Legislative/Regulatory Drafting and Interpretation.

Mr. Makanga Farouk enrolled in 2009 and joined Aequitas Advocates in January, 2018 from Baale Lubega & Co. Advocates.
He focuses in arrears of general commercial litigation and debt collection, taxation, conveyance, employment law, insurance and intellectual property.
He commends a wide experience in civil and criminal law, commercial law, taxation, Insurance and arbitration.

Mr Bwaya Farouk is a Legal Associate with the firm. He completed his Post- Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre in 2020. He completed his Bachelor of Laws Degree from Islamic University in Uganda in 2016.
He joined the firm in 2019 as a Legal Assistant. He previously worked with Barnabas DK Dyadi & Co. Advocates as a Legal Assistant between April, 2017 and June, 2019.
His areas of practice include civil litigation, legal advice to clients, land conveyancing and company registration, among others.
Sulainah Nankayi

Ms. Sulainah Nankaayi is an Associate with the firm. She is an enrolled advocate having attained her Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Kampala in 2021.
She completed her Bachelor of Laws Degree in Law from the Islamic University in Uganda in 2019.
She joined the firm in 2018 as a Legal Intern. She clerked with the Uganda Land Commission from December, 2020 to April, 2021.
She has a wide experience in legal practice especially in the areas of Drafting pleadings, agreements, memoranda, legal opinions, and the like.
She enjoys practice in various areas such as civil procedure, employment law, land matters as well as commercial transactions.

Ms. Hope Moureen Ssegonga joined the firm in 2023 as an Associate.
She is a member of the Institute of Corporate Governance since 2022.
She completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre in 2022.
She also completed her Bachelor of Laws Degree from Makerere University in 2019.
Before joining the firm, Moureen worked with Karungi and Partners, Advocates & Solicitors as a Legal Research Assistant.
She has a keen interest in Civil and general Commercial Litigation.

Mr. Amanya Katugume is a Legal Associate with the firm having joined in September, 2023.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from Makerere University in 2021.
He graduated from the Law Development Centre in 2023 with a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal
Practice. He is yet to be called to the bar.
Before joining the firm, Amanya previously worked with M/s Banturaki & Co. Advocates and completed his clerkship at the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC).
He has a keen interest in Corporate and Commercial Transactions as well as Litigation.

Ms. Amanya Nevious is a Legal Associate with the firm having joined in October, 2023.
She completed her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Kampala International University in 2019.
Nevious completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the Law Development Centre in 2023. She is yet to be called to the Bar.
Before joining the firm, Nevious had previously worked with M/s Ssekyewa, Matovu & Co. Advocates and the Parliament of Uganda.
She has a keen interest in Civil Litigation, NGO and Family Law Practice.

Mr. Kamukama Elijah is a Legal Associate with the firm. He completed his Post- Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice in 2021 with Distinction.
He completed his Bachelor of Laws Degree from Makerere University in 2019 where he was in the top 5 percentile of his class.
Elijah joined the firm in 2018 as a Legal Intern. He has acquired experience in various fields of law such as Litigation support, drafting legal documents, legal research, Immigration support services and the like.
Nuwabiine Sylvia

Sylvia has a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and Social Administration which she obtained in 2021 from Uganda Christian University.
She joined the team in 2022. She has worked with both the public and private sector such as the Uganda Red Cross.
She is the Female Youth Councilor for Kagarama Sub- County, Isingiro District where she advocates for the youth and attends meetings with the Local Leaders in the District.
In her free time Sylvia carries out charity work with the Uganda Red Cross in Isingiro District. She also plays volleyball professionally.
